There's no single official conversion between these four English tests — the table below is a commonly cited public concordance, and it's the same one AdmitPath uses internally to compare your score against a university's published IELTS minimum, whichever test you actually took.

Why treat this as approximate
Each row is the minimum score commonly associated with that IELTS band across public concordance research — not a guarantee that a specific university treats them as interchangeable. Some universities publish their own, sometimes stricter, conversion for admissions purposes. If your target university lists a minimum in a test you didn't take, check that university's own accepted-test page before relying on a generic table like this one.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an official conversion between IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, and Duolingo?
No single official cross-test conversion exists. Each test body (British Council/IDP for IELTS, ETS for TOEFL, Pearson for PTE, Duolingo for DET) publishes its own approximate concordance research, and universities aren't obligated to use any of them the same way. The table below reflects commonly cited public concordance bands — treat it as a planning estimate, not a guarantee of what a specific university will accept.
Which score should I use if my university lists a minimum in a different test?
Always check your target university's own accepted-test page first — many publish their own conversion table, which may differ slightly from generic public concordance data. Use a public table like this one only when the university hasn't published its own guidance.
Does AdmitPath use this exact conversion?
Yes — this table matches the concordance data AdmitPath's shortlist tool uses to compare your score against a university's published IELTS minimum, whichever test you actually took.
